Backyard digs! Here's the Strava life update you didn't ask for:

I now live in a cabin in the woods! I've got my own little chalet to accompany the Skilas Lodge. It has running water, power, and a heater. More than I deserve after snowboarding all day really. The walls may be made of plywood, but the solitude is invaluable. A nice switch up from living in Sapporo the last 6 weeks, which means I'm pretty much half way through my season in Japan! Going to be real sad when it's over. The work and lifestyle is pretty all consuming, especially up here at the lodge. Wake up at 6:30, make breaky for guests by 7, out the door around 8, skiing by 9. Right now at the lodge we have 6 Swedish guys who are a hoot. When I get the the ski resort I meet up with a group of 7 skiers and snowboarders from Vancouver BC. So far I've met people from Japan, Australia, America,  Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Denmark, Netherlands, England, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. Quite the melting pot of a place! I try to make solid contacts with 1 or 2 people each week to the point where I could go visit these folks in their respective homelands. The Brodie world tour is going to be pretty lit one day. 

On the more grim side, we haven't seen snow in the better part of 2 weeks. I guess even Japan has weird weather swings these days. With the lack of pow it's tough managing expectations of guests, so I've been leaning into each of their unique personalities and group dynamics to sneak out the best day that each day has to offer, and honestly it's lead to some days that are much more fun than hounding over powder. I always come back to the idea that it doesn't matter what you're doing, just where you are and who you're with that matter. More snow on deck though and wow will it be a breath of fresh air for us and our guests. In the meantime, I poked around behind my new home to get a lay of the land. Not much to see as far as views, and maybe the worst north facing snow in I'll touch all season (hopefully) but there are some nice pitches and we'll spaced trees that could be quite tasty given some new snow. More backyard laps to come!
