What started as a casual run towards Doi Suthep turned into an unexpected race day! I stumbled upon the Hoka Chiang Mai Hill Repeats Challenge, a four-hour event where runners tackled a series of hill repeats: up the paved road towards the Doi Suthep trailhead, down again, over another hill to the reservoir, and back down to the base camp trailhead hub. The event was buzzing with energy—lots of runners, music, spectators, and an incredible vibe. Naturally, I stopped to check it out.

Although I arrived late, they kindly let me join for the final 1.5 hours. I managed four laps, and based on my pace, I would’ve been on track for 10 or 11 laps if I’d started on time—right up there with the winner, who completed 10. Felt strong the entire time and didn’t walk a single step, which makes me really happy. My rest and recovery protocols this week seem to be working perfectly.

I also had the chance to connect with some local Thai runners and was, surprisingly, the only non-Thai participant in the event. The Garmin reps were there too, and I learned the Enduro 3 isn’t sold in Thailand because the market is “too niche.” Meanwhile, I’m here thinking, this is exactly what I need. If anyone has a hookup for an Enduro 3 in Thailand, let me know—my Fenix 6 battery just isn’t cutting it anymore.

All in all, a great day filled with spontaneous race energy and solid performance. Looking forward to jumping into more events like this!
